Stylists from the exclusive Melbourne salon group Rokk Ebony are up for an impressive five awards in the prestigious Australian Hair Fashion Awards.
Dubbed the ‘Oscars’ of the hairdressing industry, the Australian Hair Fashion Awards recognise hairdressers whose photographic collections are on the cutting edge of the latest trends in hair fashion and have a superior level of creativity, skill and technical precision.
Competing for the coveted 2009 AHFA Australian Hairdresser of the Year award is Rokk Ebony’s Creative Director Joey Scandizzo. Scandizzo has been a finalist in this category for the last two years and was the winner of the 2008 AHFA Men’s Hairdresser of the Year. Industry greats are wondering could third time be a charm for this internationally esteemed stylist?
Not to be outdone, the other half of Rokk Ebony’s creative duo Marie Uva is a finalist for the 2009 AHFA Creative Colourist of the Year as well as the 2009 VIC/TAS Hairdresser of the Year. Uva has an impressive array of experience working on Australian and international fashion shows and has had her work featured in a number of top fashion magazines including Madison, Cleo and AHJ.
Competing against Uva for the illustrious title of the 2009 AHFA Creative Colourist of the Year is one of Rokk Ebony’s principal colourists Jessica Cellante.
The winner of the 2009 AHFA Creative Colourist receives a Vespa Scooter and a three month publicity package from Crush Media.
Rokk Ebony’s most promising new talent, Aaron Chan is up for the celebrated 2009 AHFA Apprentice of the Year.
The awards are judged by a panel of internationally acclaimed hairdressers in London including the reigning British Hairdresser of the Year Akin Konizi, who was blown away with the talent and innovation shown in the collections from Rokk Ebony.
Applicants must create an entire story around the photographic collection encompassing hair, make-up, clothing, accessories and lighting which are all considered in the judging process.
Winners will be announced at the biggest event in the hairdressing industry’s calendar, the Australian Hair Fashion Awards gala dinner on the 20th April 2009 at the Sydney Opera House. The awards will be hosted by Daryn Jones of MTV and featured on the network for two weeks following the event.
The Australian Hair Fashion Awards are sponsored and presented by the AHJ and the Fellowship for Australian Hairdressing.
