“To be honest, it’s personal. It has to be, otherwise I wouldn’t care. But it’s a different kind of personal. Years ago I was driven by ego; it was all about looking good. This was my reality. The greatest thing about getting older is that you find this incredible freedom to be true to yourself, to make mistakes (because that’s when discoveries happen), and to accept yourself for everything you are, and more importantly, for everything you’re not. I’m not a lot of things, but today I’m less interested in worrying about what others might think about that. I’ve spent 35 years of my life in hairdressing, and it’s been a tremendous experience. I’ve been a salon owner, a stylist, a product creator, a businessman, a marketer, a teacher, a public speaker, a photographer, a director and an artist. The industry has given me a lot. A life filled with successes and failures, opportunities, and adventures. I’m full of gratitude. Now I want to put back.
What is the point of all this experience unless I can PAY IT FORWARD?
I once read that if you want to change your reality, change your focus. And if you want to change your focus, change the questions you ask yourself. So I did. I asked myself, “How can I make a difference?”
And the answer was quite simple…
Go back to the grassroots of what defines hairdressing by tapping into the Creative Consciousness of the next generation of hairdressers and artists in our industry. What it is they desire, what are their visions, their goals, and most importantly, what it is that THEY want to BELONG TO for their FUTURE.
It is my new vision to take my experiences and cultivate a new tribe of young, creative and motivated hairdressers and artists which I have coined “Young Guns.”
I look forward to jump-starting this evolutionary revolution in Australia.”
