Life in India 4 – Rod Anker

Well seems like I almost forgot about a little conversation I had with Carl about writing regular blogs….ooops sorry

Since I last wrote to you I have been busy of course with little time to spare which is awesome! I have had my cousin come visit me, two clients/ friends, a old team member and a mate visit me or actually I am not stupid they crashed at my place and got the free food place to stay etc. I may add they all enjoyed the maid service I have and the delivery of everything directly to your door! I have joined gym and really looking forward to getting there one day 

We did our Indian collection, having bought in a Fashion photographer from New York and we had both Kim and Daniel fly in especially for it, a great result and a lot of fun with the images seen in many publications throughout Asia

I tend to talk to friends in Australia and they say wow seems like you are doing so many exciting things but if you tend to condense everything into a conversation then yes it is a lot.  I have been travelling not as much as last year and have mainly been within India for work, I have a few clients outside Delhi so I get flown to them and look after them, extreme….not really when someone can have what they want when they want I suppose it is pampering for one self which we have not seen in Australia or at least you have not heard about.

I have been fortunate to now have written for Marie Clair, Vogue, Cosmopolitan and many smaller India magazines. This month we are in Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Mens Health, HT Brunch, the Times Today newspaper and a health care magazine called Bpositive.

Having been settled in India now for almost 18 months life has become more structured and I really feel at home here. Hairdressing has its challenges and having the most exclusive and expensive salon in the country comes with responsibilities to educate and build the industry  to a higher level to ensure  we have a sustainable future. I sound like Julia on her victory speech I am sure however I am passionate about it as here there is no one giving support or education on the world of hairdressing, so I am!

Next month I am presenting at the India Beauty Expo 2010,  should be good. The salon is busy every day now and the networking we have done has and is paying off. Yes I said networking, anyone who knows me would say Rod hates that! Well actually I am getting good at it now and am often out meeting people, knowing a lot of people and the “ right circles” you get invited out a lot and it is good not only for the social side but also for the brand and business, I have met the most amazing people of which have given us incredible opportunities and good friends.

Well training hard with the team I have so I better run, am planning a small trip to the Philippines in a few weeks as the 44 degrees and constant dust day in and day out is nice for the first week but to be honest I am really longing for some clear skies and some nice sandy beach!
