Hi guys, Kev here.
The months roll on and this month we are in sharp contrast to last month. We have now gone soft (again)!
Fashion is full of contradictions so here are some contradictions for spring.
This Vogue shoot was shot in rural New South Wales and the call time was possibly the earliest call I have ever done – 2am!!!!
The Photographer wanted the first light so we had to drive to the location and do a 20 minute walk across sand dunes. Boy was I pooped after that!
The shoot was amazing and the light that was there looks incredible.
The hair went up and down like a yo-yo and the weather was not kind to us, however the mist really added to the mood.
The hair was a really simple prep – I ran a little MOTION.LOTION into dried hair and did the folding fan and scrunchie trick with a hair net and hairdryer to create the waves.
The hair was pulled back and sewn with a bit of string to make the look seamless and I finished with SESSION.SPRAY throughout the day. I kept on layering FRESH.HAIR to help with the humidity problems.
We shot for 2 days and were done by lunchtime on both days. The shoot was so serene and pure it was lots of fun!
Next is a celebrity shoot for inStyle, starring Melissa George to celebrate inStyles 10th birthday. I wanted to give her a Hollywood glam look but in a modern, undone way.
I prepped her damp hair with HEATED.DEFENCE and dried it in. I used a small curling iron and then stretched the hair around the KEVIN.MURPHY medium size Curler. I used the SCREEN.SIREN technique that is on a podcast and in the kits that are available for you all now.
It’s an 8-curler set so it’s a really easy step by step (once you have all the bits and clips ect.)
You might remember Melissa from the TV series Alais and she has been in Greys Anatomy and the Amityville Horror
Melissa has very beautiful hair naturally and an amazing colour. She says she spends a fortune on hair treatements but she is a big fan of ANGEL.WASH as her hair is on the fine side.
Melissa was a big star in Australia and is a household name. She married an American and now chooses to live in NYC and she prefers underground and Indie films rather than big budget Hollywood movies.
We shot Melissa on the beach in Melbourne on a stormy summer day. I wanted her hair to look windswept but at the same time I had to make sure the style held all day. I used a lot of SESSION.SPRAY during the course of the day and I made sure I brushed the hair after each spraying, as this allowed the hair to hold the style all day long but look lived in and soft to touch.
Well that’s all from me again. I hope you enjoyed the shoots and I’ll see you all electronically next month!
Bye for now,
Kevin Murphy
