We catch up with the amazing and talented Marie Uva. She needs little introduction these days as she storms towards Colour Stardom. She was recently crowned Australian Hair & Fashion Awards Creative Colourist of the Year 2009. Plus the title of Victorian Hairdresser of the Year 2009. The Rokk Ebony star has followed this up with yet another Finalist berth in this year’s Hair Expo Colourist of the Year category. Can she take both major Colour titles in the same year?

Leading Rokk Ebony Hairdresser, Maria Uva, won Creative Colourist andVIC Hairdresser of the Year at the Australian Hair Fashion Awards last night.

Uva, Creative Director at Rokk Ebony’s South Yarra salon, impressed the judges with her new editorial collection “Pure,” a celebration of powerfully classic shades in their purest form, teamed with shape that is fearless of raw identity.

“I wanted to create something that was beautiful, but still had a contemporary feel,” says Marie Uva. “The ‘Pure’ collection is certainly wearable in a mainstream sense; however it’s the vibrancy of the colours and cuts that really makes an impact.”

Marie particularly loves the long chocolate waves she created for one of her models. “This look is is a beautiful contrast of deconstructed soft waves with the sharp lines of the fringe. The chocolate colour has a rich vibrancy which will be extremely popular this season. The look worked beautifully with the skin tones and face shape.” she says.

This is not Marie’s first accolade; in fact her successes have been many. She is the current Hair Expo Colour Technician of the Year 2008 and Finalist AHFA Creative Colourist Of The Year 2008.

Being a gifted colourist doesn’t leave Marie with much time, she is in demand for many high profile events, such as her recent backstage roles at the Arias and New York Fashion Week. Her many celebrity clients also keep her extremely busy, she recently created a cascade of delicate curls for Style ambassador, Rebecca Twigley for this year’s AFL Brownlow ceremony.
