Generation Y and You

Times are Changing. ARE YOU!

We hear of young millionaires being self-made through the internet and maybe not even realize that there are more text messages sent every day then there are people in the world.

If we don`t understand the world your employees live in, how can you relate to who they are and how they operate. How can you seriously maximize their effectiveness. Generation Y or the I Generation make up 25% of the workforce and over the next 3 years time this will double. These are the people that will make or break your business from the inside. Gen Y are an integral part of any business. Understanding them and how they response is a must for any Salon Owner or Manager.

Many Baby Boomers and Generation X who are running businesses are engaging in strategies that resonate for the “Old World`. To succeed in the race to attract and retain the highest quality staff, salons need to engage “New World “ employees in an environment that they know and understand. If we don`t, then we would see an increasing number of discontented staff that result in low quality performance and high staff turnover.

It is a fact that Gen Y are the largest consumer group on the planet and are very different to any other generation that have gone before. They have grown up with immediate access to information, content and differing opinions. They are innovative, enthusiastic and live 24/7 lives. They are happy to work hard as long as they enjoy what they are doing, feel belonged and feel that they can fulfill their full potential. They also have built-in radar systems to quickly identify inconsistencies and non-transparency in businesses and management. Wow!

If you want to retain and motivate this generation,, you need to have superior Leadership skills, adopt current innovative Sales Training programs for them and above all implement best practices in Human Resources .
